Advantage and Disadvantage are core mechanics in D&D 5th Edition that modify how you roll d20s for ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws. Instead of applying numerical bonuses or penalties, this system uses multiple dice to create probability curves that feel more dramatic and memorable.

When you have Advantage, you roll two d20s and use the higher result. When you have Disadvantage, you roll two d20s and use the lower result. This simple change creates approximately a +5 or -5 modifier effect on average, but with much more interesting probability distributions.
